2470 women and children were sold into brothels where they will suffer the worst kind of dehumanizing abuse. Many are very young,
some only 12 years of age, illiterate, poor, and terrified. They won't
live long because if violence and abuse don`t kill them, AIDS will. Some
will take their own lives, unable to bear the excruciating pain of
torture and the mental anguish of being used in vile and shameful
ways. The worst kind of betrayal will be felt by those who were sold to
traffickers by their own relatives. With no one to trust and no one to
care, they will sink into despair as they live out
their short hellish existence in a world where no one hears their
cries.
Thankfully, through the media and other organizations, some of those cries are being heard by those willing to rescue these victims. People who care can make a difference.
